Belle Isle State Park – The wide diversity of habitats
(big and small rivers, ponds, fields, maritime pine
forests, beaches, hedgerows, marshes, grasslands) make
this park a birder’s delight any season of the year.
The observation blind overlooking a tidal pond is of
particular interest in the winter when waterfowl, tundra
swans and blue geese are very close. The park is a
reliable location to see eagles at any time of the year,
and is also an excellent habitat for a great variety of
butterflies. Driving directions: Take Rt. 3 to
Lively; then turn south on Rt. 201. At the end of the
road, turn right on Rt. 354; continue for 3.1 miles and
turn left on Rt. 683. This leads to the park .7 miles
ahead.
