BLUEBIRD RESULTS |

|
Bluebirds have made a come back in the Northern Neck of Virginia and the Middle Peninsula. Many feel that the NNAS Bluebird Box Project has played a significant role in their turn around. Cavity nesting birds were hard hit by the loss of nesting sites and competition from invasive species. Thirty years ago Mary Marlar started the NNAS Bluebird Box program and since then several thousands of bluebird boxes were built, sold and erected in the Northern Neck and surrounding areas. These nest boxes have provided homes for thousands of bluebirds as well as other birds and critters. Chickadees, titmice, tree swallows, flying squirrels and others have put good use to our boxes. Mary Marlar had a great idea, and it started a tradition that NNAS will continue. Over the years the Bluebird Box Project grew in size and importance. It is not only an important factor in helping our birds. It provides the largest part of our NNAS operating budget. It provides the funds that pay for our web site, post office box, insurance, our newsletter, our speakers and all the rest of the expenses that our organization entails. The success of our bird box project depends on our volunteers who build and distribute them and the stores in our community that carry our boxes. We owe many thanks to the businesses that provide us with valuable shelf space and sell our boxes. They do this as a service for NNAS and the bluebirds. We need to be sure to thank these generous folks who support us in this important endeavor. Our special thanks go out to our Blue Bird Box Outlets: Allison’s Ace Hardware Lottsburg, VA
When you frequent these businesses let them know that you are from NNAS and that you appreciate their support!
