NOVEMBER 2007
A big THANK YOU to all of you who contributed so actively to the success of our Members’ Meeting in October. We got lots of practical feedback and everyone had a chance to see first hand some of the rewarding activities this chapter is involved with.
The discussions and inputs also gave us an opportunity to take stock of where we are headed and how this fits with our members’ expectations. Most of you will have received the compilation of the feedback through the birding hotline on your e-mail.
As a summary, some of the main conclusions one might draw are:-
· There is great interest, not only in birding specifically, but also in activities that help to conserve habitat · Many of you have a strong conviction that our role and mission definitely needs to include strong advocacy and active involvement in conservation efforts · Our members would like us to consider more excursions like the trip to Port Isobel · You’d like to see consideration for additional bird-walks, possible weekend activities and other locations · We need to appeal to and find ways to get more young people involved · There is a lot more we can do to “get the word out” and be represented in public events like the Farmers’ Markets· Perhaps we are indeed too “Kilmarnock centric” and should explore ways to become more involved in ALL of the Northern Neck · Our programs are well on track and there are lots of ideas for future offerings.
Again, I’d like to thank all those who helped with the “displays’ and all who gave us an opportunity to discover what it is you think important. Your board will process these inputs as we finalize our long term strategic plan and decide on programs, projects and priorities for the near term. We’ll keep you posted.
Thanks for listening.
