The beautiful Belle Isle
State Park was the perfect venue for the annual picnic
attended by over 50 members of our chapter on September
10th.
Lillian (Mike) Rothery,
a charter member of the Northern Neck Audubon Society
was in attendance. Mike & her late husband, Gus, were
the originators in this area of the early bluebird box
building effort. The nesting boxes were built in the
Rothery’s garage for several years and sold for a mere
$3.00. Mike taught “Beginning Birding” for many years &
she led numerous bird walks & is a past member of the
Board of Directors.
