DAMERON MARSH AUDUBON BIRD WALK OCTOBER 10TH On Monday, October 10th, the Northern Neck Audubon Society (NNAS) will conduct a bird walk at Dameron Marsh Natural Area Preserve in Northumberland County. This preserve, lying on a peninsula that juts into the Chesapeake Bay, offers terrific birding and wildlife viewing opportunities. Possible sightings include late migrating shorebirds, warblers, thrushes and hawks coming through the Atlantic flyway. If time permits, the group may continue to Hughlett Point Natural Area Preserve. Carpools will leave Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock at 7:15 a.m. Those driving directly should arrive at Dameron Marsh at 7:30 a.m. To drive from Kilmarnock, take Rt. 200 north. Go approximately 5 miles and turn right on Rt. 606, Shiloh School Road. At the end of Shiloh School Road, turn left on Rt. 605, Balls Neck Road. Go approximately � mile and turn right onto Cloverdale Road. Proceed 0.4 miles and turn left onto Rt. 693, Guarding Point Lane. Continue 0.3 miles and turn right onto a gravel road which leads to the preserve. To drive from Burgess, take Rt. 200 south. Go approximately 6.5 miles and turn left on Rt. 606, Mount Olive Road. Go approximately 3 miles, and turn left onto Cloverdale Road. Proceed 0.4 miles and turn left onto Rt. 693, Guarding Point Lane. Continue 0.3 miles and turn right onto a gravel road which leads to the preserve. Binoculars and water resistant footwear are recommended.
