1000 Bluebird Boxes Built |
By
Fred Witschey As of the previous newsletter, we were in the middle of our ten-day project to build 1000 Bluebird nesting boxes. We had a great crew this year. Twenty-one workers spent more than 300 hours on the project. I think we made some improvements on the boxes this year, and I am presently experimenting with several predator control devices. After this nesting season, I hope to report some good results that can be incorporated next year. About 600 boxes have already been distributed this year by Tom Teeples and his able crew. The boxes are going fast and I'm sure that by the end of the season, enough will have been sold that we will be building another thousand this fall. I would like to note that three of our members have worked on this project for about twenty years. We do have a lot of experience building the boxes! Again,
thanks to everybody who worked on the project and especially to Albert
Pollard for letting us use his shop and to the Kilmarnock Planing Mill for
letting us use their building to store the boxes.
