Celebrate 35th Anniversary of NNAS |
The Northern Neck Audubon Society is planning a 35th anniversary dinner celebration for Monday, December 5, at Rappahannock Westminster Canterbury. There will be a social hour starting at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m., followed by a program on Peregrine Falcons by Elizabeth Long of the College of William and Mary. Long’s presentation will be based on her research work in the spring and summer of 2004 and 2005, which involved installing cameras on the nests of several pairs of falcons in Virginia to monitor feeding, behavior, nestling growth and development. NNAS will be celebrating 35 years of accomplishments, which include: its annual Blue Bird Box Project, believed to be a important factor in increasing the population of these beloved birds in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula; the acquisition and on-going maintenance of Hickory Hollow Nature Trail; the contribution of financial support for the purchase of Hughlett’s Point, Dameron Marsh and Bush Mill Stream Natural Area Preserves; and the provision of support to the Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Belle Isle State Park and Dragon Run. Over the years, the NNAS Foundation has contributed over $600,000 to various conservation and educational projects. It presently holds conservation easements on several plots of land in the Northern Neck, and it provided seed money that helped establish the Northern Neck Land Conservancy. All members and friends of NNAS are invited to join in the December
5th celebration. Reservations must be received by November 15. Those wishing
to attend should send $25.00 (per person) to NNAS, P.O. Box 991, Kilmarnock,
VA 22482 by that date. For additional information, call Paul Servis at
