What would you do? |
From president Tom Teeples:
This year our Chapter celebrates its 30th anniversary. We got our start in December 1970. We plan to have a special celebration for our December meeting. I started planning for the December meeting back in February. I thought that it would be nice to have our National Audubon Society (NAS) president, John Flicker (yes, that's his name), come and address our celebration. You see we also invited Flicker to our 25th anniversary Dinner and we were turned down because we did not provide enough lead-time to fit his schedule. That's why I thought February was a good time to start preparing.
Well, our dinner date conflicts with the national meeting, so Flicker can't make this one either. We can forgive him for that. In July of this year, I sent an E-mail to the membership arm of NAS asking if they had any promotional items available that we can use for door prizes at our December meeting. No response. Not even a "No"!
Also in July, after the deal had been consummated, I notified NAS that our chapter had saved the 254 acres of Hickory Hollow forever.
Any, "Well done," message from NAS? No. The silence has been deafening. In August, I wrote John Flicker an old fashioned letter with paper copies of the messages mentioned above. Still no response!! My plans of further action have run the gamut from completely ignoring what has happened, to storming NAS headquarters with aerosol pesticides!
The New Jersey Audubon Society is completely independent and has nothing to do with NAS.
I wonder why? What would you do?
(Editor's note the Board of Directors as well as Tom would like to
hear from the membership on this issue.)
