Rural Conservation Symposium
February 19

Tom Teeples to brief attendees on NNAS activities

Northern Neck Audubon Society members are cordially invited to the Garden Club of the Northern Necks second annual conservation program, Preserving our Rural Character: A Conservation Symposium for the Northern Neck.

Throughout Virginia, people and organizations are working hard to preserve and protect their past. We are restoring historic buildings, documenting our local traditions and telling our stories, but what are we doing to preserve and protect our future?

What about the open space around us - farmlands, woods, creeks and rivers? What will happen to our wildlife habitats? Will our carefully preserved historic buildings become small oases in a desert of roadside development?

Join us at the symposium and learn how people and organizations are working together to protect and enhance our scenic beauty and promote attractive and livable communities. Featured speakers include Hylah Boyd, a former conservation chairman of the Garden Club of Virginia and founder and president of Scenic Virginia, and Stewart Schwartz, executive director of the Coalition for Smarter Growth.

NNAS has been at the forefront of local conservation activities and our own Tom Teeples will also be there to brief symposium attendees on our recent success stories.

The symposium will be held on Tuesday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the White Stone United Methodist Church, Routes 3 and 702 in White Stone. A light lunch will be served after the program.

There is no charge, but seating is limited. For more information or to make a reservation, please call Susan Tipton at 804 453-3915 or Mary Lloyd Lay at 804 435-1271 or email [email protected].
